Avion Rewards – How it works

General

We’re glad you’re interested in joining Avion Rewards! Here are the two ways you can join:

I don’t bank with RBC

No problem, you can become a Select member. Download the Avion Rewards app or select “Join Now” on Avion Rewards. Sign up with your email address and you’re in!

I bank with RBC

Great, that means you can become a Premium or Elite member depending on what type of account or card you have. Simply sign in to Avion Rewards using your Online Banking credentials and accept the Terms & Conditions to activate your membership.

Avion Rewards offers tons of ways to earn points. Depending on your membership level, you can earn Avion points from:

  • Purchases made with an eligible RBC points-earning credit card
  • The Value Program
    Simply enrol an eligible personal chequing account and start earning Avion points on qualifying debit purchases made online or in-store
  • Offers available on the Avion Rewards Shop page
    Simply load your available offers to earn bonus Avion points on qualifying purchases. Follow the steps provided under each offer on how to earn points
  • When you get a new eligible credit card, bank account or other product that offers welcome points
  • With qualifying purchases using your eligible linked RBC card at our select merchant partners like Petro-Canada
    You’ll receive 20% more Avion points at Petro-Canada when you pay with your linked RBC points-earning credit card

If you’re a member of the Value Program, Avion points are reported monthly and take into account all the in-store and online debit purchases from, and returns to, your enrolled personal deposit account.

For example, say you purchase a $300 blender with your debit card in December and received your Avion points. In January, you return the blender and get a $300 credit to your personal deposit account, but you also make $500 in debit purchases. For January, you would be awarded points for $200 of your debit spend ($500 in debit purchases minus the $300 return). Alternatively, if in January you do not make any debit purchases and only return the $300 blender, you would not be awarded any points for January and 300 points will be removed from your points account.

Yes, if you hold an RBC Bank credit card in the U.S., you’re able to participate in the U.S. Avion Rewards program. You can also transfer your U.S. Avion points to your Canadian Avion Rewards account.

When transferring points from your U.S. to Canadian Avion Rewards account, points are converted at a 1:1 ratio – meaning one U.S. Avion point is equal to one Canadian Avion point. Once points are transferred, they’ll be governed by the Avion Rewards Terms & Conditions at Royal Bank of Canada.

If you’re a Select member, you can delete your account by clicking the profile icon, then Settings, then View personal information. Scroll to the bottom of your profile and click Delete account.

If you’re a Premium or Elite member and you close or cancel all your RBC products, your participation in the Program will terminate and the points in your account will be available for redemption, transfer, or conversion within 12 months of closure. See chapter 36 of the Avion Rewards T&Cs for the full details.

For Select members, you can simply reinstall the Avion Rewards app and sign in with your previous username and password. You may need to reaccept the Terms & Conditions to become an active member of the program.

If your account has been inactive for five years, then it will be reactivated as a new account with no earning history.

For Premium and Elite members, you can’t reactivate previously closed accounts. You will simply open a new account with your new RBC product.

If you forget your password, simply click “Forgot Password?” in the app and follow the steps provided.

If you’re a Premium or Elite member, you can’t change the email address associated with your account, for security reasons.

If you’re a Select member, you can change the email address by clicking the profile icon and selecting Contact an advisor. They can help you update your email address.

If you no longer wish to receive emails from Avion Rewards, click the “unsubscribe” button at the bottom of any Avion Rewards email that you receive.

Manage points

There are several ways to find out how many Avion points you have:

  • 1. View your Avion points by signing in to avionrewards.com or on the Avion Rewards app. After signing in, you’ll see your points balance on the Home page

Depending on how you bank with RBC, there are different ways to find your points balance:

  • 2. If you bank with RBC, you can also find your points balance by signing in to RBC Online Banking. From the Account Summary page select "Go to Avion Rewards" within the Avion Rewards section
  • 3. If you’re an RBC Royal Bank credit cardholder, check your monthly credit card statement to see how many Avion points you have available to redeem
  • 4. If you’re an eligible Personal Banking client, view your Avion points in your Vantage Snapshot within the RBC Mobile App. Simply:
    • a) Sign in to the RBC Mobile app
    • b) Tap “More”
    • c) Tap “Vantage Snapshot.” Your points will be listed under Available Points Balance

Note: Only primary and co-applicant credit card holders have access to sign in to view their points.

Log in to the Avion Rewards app and select See Activity. You’ll be able to view your points, cash back and savings history.

Yes, you can transfer Avion points from one points account to another.

Check out the individual perks and benefits of your points-earning account to see where you can maximize the value of your points.

Note: Points are transferred on a 1:1 basis, meaning the number of points you transfer will not change from one points-earning product to another. In addition, there is no fee to transfer points.

If you have more than one Avion points account, you can transfer points between most accounts that appear on your profile. Transfers are only eligible between points accounts that you own. Points earned by an authorized credit card user belong to the primary credit cardholder.

No. There is no minimum or maximum. You can transfer Avion points between accounts as you need, with no limits. Also, if you realize that you have transferred too many points in a points account, or into the wrong points account, you can always transfer them back, with no fees.

When you transfer Avion points from your U.S. Dollar Visa Gold points account to another Avion points account (non U.S. dollar), the points will be transferred at a rate of 1:1.

No. Avion points transfers are final, and cannot be reversed or cancelled. However, if you choose the wrong points account for your transfer or need the points back into the account you transferred from, you can just set up another transfer. Don’t worry, you will not pay any fees, or experience any loss in the transfer.

Yes. If your business banking profile is linked to your personal banking profile, you can transfer points to or from your business rewards account online.

If your business banking profile is not linked to your personal banking profile, you can transfer points from or to your business rewards account by calling us at 1-800-769-2512.

Yes, you can. You’ll be able to redeem Avion points you’ve earned (based on the rates associated with the closed account) for up to 12 months after closure. You can also transfer your points to any active points account you have and redeem from there. If you’re not ready to redeem your points, be sure to transfer them to an active account before your 12 months are up.

Pending Points are the approximate amount of points you’ve earned since your last credit card statement.

They’ll become Available Points with your credit card next statement provided that the transactions they’re based on haven’t since been cancelled or returned.

Pending Points will not reflect the following:

  • Bonus points that may be applied to a transaction
  • Transactions from a business roll-up account

You’ll be able to spend Pending Points once they become Available Points with your next credit card statement provided that the transactions they’re based on are completed and have not been subsequently cancelled or returned.

If you’re an RBC Avion Visa Infinite Business, RBC Avion Visa Business or RBC Commercial Avion Visa applicant, points roll-up allows you to combine the Avion points earned on all your employees' Avion Visa Infinite Business/Avion Visa Business/Commercial Avion Visa cards into one account, and pool your points between your business and personal Avion cards

No, Avion points don’t expire. Avion points are yours to use as long as your Avion Rewards eligible account remains open and in good standing.

However, your points will be forfeited twelve (12) months after, if:

(i) you voluntarily close your account or

(ii) RBC closes your account for any reason other than for cause

Avion Rewards – Travel

General

Find your itinerary any time on the Avion Rewards website or on the app by selecting "My Trips" at the top right of the page or the app.

Upon receiving the refund from the airline, Avion Rewards Travel generally processes refunds to members within 2 business days. In the event of conditions such as labour disputes or severe weather, refunds can take up to 15 business days. We appreciate your patience.

Book travel

To redeem your points, first sign in to the Avion Rewards website or the app. Then select "Travel” from the menu to book flights, hotels, car rentals and more.

Avion Rewards members can redeem their points for flights, hotel stays, packages, car rentals and experiences.

RBC ION Visa and RBC ION+ Visa cardholders can redeem Avion points at the rate of 172 points = $1 CAD towards rail travel.

Other Avion Rewards members can redeem Avion points at a rate of 100 points = $1 CAD towards rail travel. A minimum of 1,000 points must be redeemed.

Note:

Currently, Avion Select members and those with an Avion Rewards Core Account are not eligible to redeem for a trip with Via Rail.

Yes, you can pay for your booking with a combination of points and credit card.

For RBC ION Visa or RBC ION+ Visa cardholders, Avion Rewards Core Product Accounts and Avion Select members, 172 points = $1 CAD. A minimum of 2,500 points must be redeemed and the remaining balance can be paid with a credit card.

Other Avion Rewards members can redeem travel at a rate of 100 points = $1 CAD. A minimum of 1,000 points must be redeemed and the remaining balance can be paid with a credit card.

RBC Avion Visa cardholders who are redeeming Avion points for flights from the Air Travel Redemption Grid can use their credit card to pay for taxes and fees and any amount above the Maximum Ticket Price.

RBC Avion Visa cardholders can also purchase additional points to use towards flights on the Air Travel Redemption Grid. They must have at least half of the required points for their booking in order to purchase additional points. The minimum amount of points to purchase is 1,000 and maximum is 15,000, and every 1,000 points costs $40 CAD plus applicable taxes.

Yes. There are three ways to redeem Avion points for first- or business-class seats.

  • Select either first class or business class before searching for flights. Then, redeem the required number of Avion points for the destination of your choice, up to the Maximum Ticket Price as indicated in the Air Travel Redemption Grid. The Maximum Ticket Price excludes any applicable taxes, surcharges and fees. Finally, pay for the price difference between the Maximum Ticket Price and the total price of your first or business class ticket by redeeming your points at the rate of 100 points = $1.00 CAD.
    For example:
    Redeeming for a flight from Toronto to Vancouver from the Air Travel Redemption Grid requires 35,000 points for a Maximum Ticket Price of $750 CAD. The Maximum Ticket Price excludes any applicable taxes, surcharges and fees. If the cost of the flight you select in business class is $1,000 CAD, you can pay for the price difference of $250 by redeeming 25,000 additional points (100 points = $1 CAD). In total, you would need to redeem 60,000 points.
  • If you’re an RBC Avion Visa Infinite Privilege for Private Banking, RBC Avion Visa Infinite Privilege, RBC Avion Visa Infinite Business or RBC Commercial Avion Visa cardholder, you can pay for the entire price of a first or business class ticket (including any applicable taxes, surcharges and fees) by redeeming your points at the rate of 100 points = $2.00 CAD.
    For example:
    If a flight from Toronto to Vancouver in first class costs $3,200 CAD (including any applicable taxes, surcharges and fees), you would need to redeem 160,000 Avion points (100 points = $2 CAD)
  • Convert your Avion points to WestJet dollars or to British Airways Avios, American Airlines AAdvantage Miles or Cathay Pacific Asia Miles. Converting your Avion points gives you the flexibility to redeem for rewards and benefits these programs offer, including for first or business class seats. Once converted, points cannot be transferred or converted back to Avion points.

All travel reservations made over the phone will be subject to a $30 booking fee per ticket or hotel booking.

Avion Rewards Core Product Accounts and Avion Select Members are not eligible for new telephone bookings.

If the airfare you’ve selected provides this service, you may pre-select your seat while booking travel online or after you’ve completed your booking.

Note: If fees apply, payment for your seat selection is by credit card only.

Unfortunately, at this time, booking travel to Cuba or Iran is unavailable through the Avion Rewards website, the app and the Avion Rewards Travel call centre. If you want to travel to Cuba or Iran, please call 1-800-ROYAL-1-2.

All travel bookings must be booked through Avion Rewards. To do this, sign in to the Avion Rewards website or the app, and select “Travel” in the menu.

Travel bookings may also be made by speaking with an Avion Rewards Travel Representative at 1-877-636-2870 and are subject to a $30 booking fee per ticket or hotel booking.

Avion Rewards Core Product Accounts and Avion Select Members are not eligible for new telephone bookings.

Children under the age of 2 can be booked online.

Yes! It’s easy to book travel for friends and family through your profile. Just be sure the name on the itinerary is identical to their full name shown on their passport.

Cancel/change travel

Before making a change or cancelling a flight, you should review the airline’s change and cancellation policies (including any applicable fees) that are outlined in your itinerary and the confirmation email of the booking.

Flight bookings can be cancelled any time from the Avion Rewards website or app by visiting the travel booking platform and selecting "My Trips" at the top right of the page or app. Select “Cancel Flight” and follow the instructions. Airline cancellation fees may apply. Cancellations can also be made by calling an Avion Rewards Travel Representative at 1-877-636-2870. A $25 cancellation fee applies per ticket.

To make changes to a flight, please call an Avion Rewards Travel Representative at 1-877-636-2870. A $25 change fee applies per ticket. Airline change fees may also apply.

Yes, fees may apply if you need to change or cancel your travel plans.
In addition, the travel supplier for your reservation (e.g. airline, hotel, tour operator, etc.) may also impose change or cancellation fees.

Air Redemption Travel Grid

The Air Travel Redemption Grid is a table that shows you the highest redemption value for your points.

The Air Travel Redemption Grid allows RBC Avion cardholders and Avion Elite members to book flights on any airline, any flight, at any time for a fixed number of points, up to a maximum ticket price, excluding taxes, surcharges and fees. The maximum ticket price depends on the travel destination.

This means that the number of points required to “Explore North America,” for instance, remains the same. Best of all, there are no blackout dates or advance booking restrictions, even during peak periods.

Only RBC Avion credit card holders are eligible to redeem their Avion points for flights on the Air Travel Redemption Grid. Before booking, you should keep in mind:

  • Check the number of points needed for your destination in the Air Travel Redemption Grid
  • Destinations have a Maximum Ticket Price which do not include taxes, surcharges and fees. In the event that a ticket costs more than the Maximum Ticket Price, the additional cost can be charged to your credit card, or you can redeem your Avion points at a rate of 100 points = $1 CAD

For example:

A flight from Toronto to Vancouver has a Maximum Ticket Price of $750 CAD. If the total ticket cost is $1,000 ($825 base fare + $175 taxes, surcharges and fees), you can charge the excess base fare amount of $75 ($825 - $750 = $75) plus the $175 taxes, surcharges and fees to your credit card. You can also redeem points at a rate of 100 points = $1 CAD for the amount over the maximum ticket price (250 x 100 = 25,000 points).

RBC Avion credit card holders also have flexibility to book flights with flexible points pricing at a rate of 100 points = $1 CAD or with a credit card.

There is no Maximum Ticket Price for airline tickets booked with flexible points pricing.

Travel insurance

This depends on what RBC product you have.

Select RBC Credit cards offer various travel insurance plans. Find out what insurance your card carries.

If your RBC credit card does not have travel insurance or you want to top-up your insurance, you can purchase insurance for your trip separately.

Convert points

Depending on your membership level, you can enjoy flexibility and benefits by converting your Avion points to points, miles or other "partner rewards" offered through partners’ loyalty programs.

Avion Rewards Premium and Elite members can convert their points to WestJet Rewards for flight rewards and more, subject to WestJet T&Cs.

Avion Rewards Elite members (RBC Avion credit card holders) can convert their Avion points to Cathay Pacific Asia Miles, British Airways Avios, or American Airlines AAdvantage miles, providing the ability to redeem for business class travel and access to the oneworld Alliance partners. Avion points are converted to Asia Miles or Avios at a one-to-one ratio. For every 10 Avion points that are converted, you’ll receive 7 AAdvantage miles.

Unfortunately, points conversion is not available for Avion Select members at this time.

Avion Rewards – Shop

ShopPlus

Avion Rewards ShopPlus is a browser extension that finds cash back deals for you as you shop and search online. Once you enable it, just shop like always and if there’s a deal, you'll see it! To get the deal, simply “Load offer” and shop that retailer.

The Avion Rewards app shows you feature offers which you can take advantage of to earn cash back, points and savings in store and online.

The ShopPlus browser extension serves up cash back deals as you shop and search online at over 2,000 stores.

As you shop online, ShopPlus helps you discover cash back deals—some as much as 40%—you otherwise wouldn’t know about. Who doesn’t love surprise savings?

Yes. It will include all cash back earned from your offers if you use the extension or shop via the Avion Rewards app.

At this time, ShopPlus only features cash back offers.

Not at this time.

Absolutely! Avion Rewards ShopPlus is for all our members to help you save wherever you shop.

Cash back/points

The Available Cash Back Balance shows you the amount of cash back you have available that can be withdrawn to your bank account.

Avion Select members:

  • Sign in to the Avion Rewards app and select the “Cash back” tab to view your balance and pending cash back

Avion Elite and Premium members:

Desktop:

  • Sign in and go to the Activity page
  • Click the “Cash back” tab to view your balance and pending cash back

App:

  • Sign in and tap on your points balance.
  • Select the “Cash back” tab to see your cash back balance

Cash can be withdrawn via Interac e-Transfer by tapping the “Cash Out” link under your Available Cash Back Balance. To send the e-Transfer, be sure you've set up autodeposit with your bank account.

Please note:

You must have a balance of $15 or more to send an Interac e-Transfer from your Available Cash Back Balance.

You’ll need to set up Interac e-Transfer for your bank account to take advantage of cash savings.

You’ll need to set up autodeposit with your bank to send cash back to your account to your account.

If you don’t have autodeposit set up, sign in to the Avion Rewards app, select “More” in the menu, then “Contact an Advisor” and an advisor will be able to help you.

Your cash back won’t expire as long as you have an active account with us. After 24 months of inactivity, your account will be closed and any cash back in your Available Cash Back Balance will be lost.

No. You can only transfer your available cash back to the Interac e-Transfer email address you originally registered with.

You need a balance of $15 or over to send an Interac e-Transfer from your available cash back balance.

Interac e-Transfer transactions are usually completed within 24 hours.

Once you submit your Interac e-Transfer request, the transaction should be available in your cash back transaction history on the Rewards Activity page.

If you do not see this transaction and are still seeing a positive available cash back balance, try submitting the request again.

For additional help, visit the “Contact an Advisor” page in the “More” menu of the Avion Rewards app and one of our advisors will be able to help.

If you have not received your cash back, it may be because:

  • Ad blockers have prevented the offer from loading. Check your browser to make sure ad blockers are disabled for Avion Rewards
  • You purchased an item that is not included in the retailer’s offer. Check carefully before making your purchase that the offer applies to that specific product
  • You made the purchase through another loyalty program. You cannot receive cash back through two programs at once
  • You made the purchase directly on the retailer’s site without loading the offer in Avion Rewards first. Certain offers are only activated when you click through from Avion Rewards.

If you have checked all of the above, you should receive your cash back once the merchant’s return window has passed, which is usually within 120 days. Check with the merchant for details.

If you have not received your cash back within 120 days, sign in to the Avion Rewards app, select “More” in the menu, then “Contact an Advisor” and an advisor will be able to help you.

No, you must withdraw all your available cash back.

Cash back on eligible offers is issued in Canadian currency. For foreign currency transactions, the cash back earned may be subject to foreign exchange fees, foreign currency fluctuations or other factors that may influence the amount of cash back earned when calculating the Canadian dollar equivalent amount.

For cash back offers, there is a holding period before it is moved to an earned status and available to be cashed out by a member. This holding period varies by merchant as it is dependent upon each merchant's return window plus associated processing time which can be up to 120 days after the original transaction date. During this period, cash back will be shown in your activity dashboard and can be found under the Pending tab. Once the holding period is complete, it will move to the Earned tab within the activity dashboard.

If you made a purchase and don’t see cash back in your account, it may be due to one of these reasons:

1. Using coupons you found outside of ShopPlus

Using coupon codes, discounts, offers or promotions associated with the merchant or other rewards programs can void your cash back. If you have a coupon code provided by the merchant during the checkout process, please read the terms and conditions to make sure you can receive the best offer available.

2. Visiting other sites or tabs during your shopping session

You won’t be eligible for cash back if visiting a merchant website from a promotional ad on social media or a pop-up from another shopping program. Browser extensions from other shopping programs can interfere with linking your purchase to your ShopPlus account.

3. Suspending your shopping session

If you happen to suspend your shopping session, check if your offer is still loaded by clicking the ShopPlus extension. If multiple tabs are open, the offer must be activated in the tab where you are making the purchase. If using the mobile app, the floating “A” will open the pop-up. On web, you'll need to click the “A” beside the URL bar to open the pop-up. If you leave your shopping session, you’ll need to reactivate the offer in the session that you complete the purchase.

Note: If you start your session on the Avion app and then move to web you will need to reactivate the offer as it’s a new session, since you’re starting on mobile then moving to web (and vice versa).

4. Not loading the cash back offer when using ShopPlus

On the merchant site, make sure to click “Load offer” before you complete the purchase. If you don’t see an offer, then cash back at that merchant may not be available.

5. Longer store reporting times

Merchants must report your order information to us, so we know how much cash back to add to your account. Reporting times can vary by merchant and range from a few hours to up to three months, and potentially more for travel merchants.

6. Buying excluded items

Some merchants do not offer cash back for purchases in specific categories such as gift cards, grocery, etc. Read each offer’s Terms and Conditions to learn about which purchases qualify.

If you’ve followed the tips above and are still experiencing trouble, try these troubleshooting tips:

  • Use a compatible desktop or web browser. ShopPlus is compatible with Edge, Chrome and Safari.
  • Use the Avion app on your mobile device. You can install it for free on your iOS device to enable the extension for iOS Safari.

7. Making a purchase on a merchant’s app instead of the merchant website

Unfortunately, you won’t earn cash back because the ShopPlus browser extension only works on merchant websites only.

8. How long it takes for your cash back balance to update

Each merchant delivers cash back based on a hold period for the time of their return policy. You’ll be able to see the total cash back earned in your Avion Rewards app under pending.

Once the merchant’s hold period has ended, we will begin the process of delivering your cash back.

9. Transferring your balance out of your Avion account (only Select members)

Once have $15 in cash back, you can transfer it to your bank account.

To view your cash back balance, go to the Home tab of your Avion Rewards app, select Activity at the top of the page and then Cash Back. You’ll see pending and earned amounts. Just a reminder - cash back earned is based on the merchant return policy per above.

Offers

To access offers, you must meet the following eligibility criteria:

  • Age of majority in your home province
  • Canadian resident
  • Eligible RBC debit or credit card
  • Enrolled in marketing preferences
  • Have no block codes

As an Avion Rewards member, you will be able to access offers through the Avion Rewards app, avionrewards.com, the Avion Rewards ShopPlus browser extension, RBC online banking, and the RBC mobile app.

If you don’t have an Avion Rewards eligible product, eligible clients will have access to the Offers portal through both the RBC mobile app and RBC online banking.

Avion Select members will always see the offers that are available to them.

For Premium or Elite members, it's possible that you may be unenrolled from the offers program. Here’s how you can re-enrol:

Avion Rewards site:

  • Sign in to your Avion Rewards account.
  • Click on the profile icon in the top navigation bar
  • Select "Preferences".

  • Select Redeem in the top navigation or menu
  • Select “Pay Credit Card Now”
  • Choose the amount you wish to redeem
  • Redeem your points.

It usually takes 2-3 days for your redemptions to appear in your credit card account.

Yes, if you have a credit card that earns Avion points, you can pay it down with points on the RBC Mobile app. The redemption process works similarly to how it does through the Avion Rewards web site–just choose the credit card you would like to pay, the dollar denomination and corresponding amount of points you wish to redeem. The RBC Mobile app is available for iOS and Android.

No, you can’t earn points when using them to pay down your credit card balance.

Members with an eligible Avion card can use their points to pay back previous purchases and get a statement credit.

Here’s how to Pay Back Purchases with Avion points:

  • Sign in to RBC Mobile or Online Banking
  • Go to credit card transaction details page
  • Double click on any transaction.
  • Select Pay with Points to go to the Pay Back with Points page
  • View full transaction details and available points balance
  • Choose any amount of points to use to “offset” all or even just a portion of the purchase amount

You’ll receive a confirmation and Avion points will be deducted from your account balance right away.

A credit will show on your credit card account within 1-2 business days with a description of “rewards redemption – merchant name”.

Pay In Store with Points is a capability available in the RBC Launch app that allows you to redeem your Avion points for purchases completed in stores with an eligible mobile wallet (iOS and Samsung).

Any purchases between $1 and $250 CAD completed through an eligible mobile wallet using your device qualify.

Make sure you’ve downloaded the RBC Launch app. Sign in with your credentials and enable push notifications. There are 2 ways to redeem:

Sign in to the RBC Launch app. Select the transaction banner at the top and redeem points towards your last purchase with Apple Pay.

Turn on push notifications for the RBC Launch app. We’ll let you know when your purchase is eligible to redeem points.

Samsung

Get started by selecting the Samsung Pay app icon or by swiping up from the bottom of your screen.

Select Pay with Avion Rewards Points and choose how many points you’d like to use towards your purchase.

Tap to pay, and your purchase is complete.

The full purchase amount will be charged to your credit card for your purchase and a statement credit for the points redemption will be applied on your credit card account within 2-3 business days from the date of your purchase. Your statement credit will indicate which merchant your transaction was made with.

You will still continue to earn Avion points for the full purchase amount even when you redeem points for that purchase.

All redemptions are final and cannot be cancelled or reversed once submitted. The points redeemed will remain as a statement credit towards your account balance even when you return or refund your purchase. The number of points redeemed may vary during promotional campaigns.

Note: Push notifications may display account information, such as account balance and transaction information, on the screen of your device in a locked state and in your device notification centre. You can disable push notifications in your notification settings.

Sign into the RBC Launch app and select “Settings”. Here, you can toggle the Pay in Store with Points feature on and off.

Points transfer

Transferring points gives you the ability to use your Avion points where you need them most. Through a simple set of steps, you can transfer Avion points from one points account to another. Check out the individual perks and benefits of your points-earning account to see where you can maximize the value of your points.

Note: Points are transferred on a 1:1 basis, meaning the number of points you transfer will not change from one points-earning product to another. In addition, there is no fee to transfer points.

If you have more than one Avion points account, you can transfer points between most accounts that appear on your profile. Transfers are only eligible between points accounts that you own. Points earned by an authorized credit card user belong to the primary credit cardholder.

Yes, you can combine the Avion points you have earned using your eligible personal deposit account (by making in-store or online debit purchases) with the Avion points you have earned with your personal, and business credit card and vice versa.

Here’s how to combine your Avion points between points-earning products:

  • Log in to avionrewards.com and click the "Transfer" menu.
  • On the landing page, select "Transfer Now” in the “Transfer Points” option. You can transfer points between the products shown in the drop-down menu.
  • Within "Transfer Points", you can set up a one-time transfer or an auto-transfer so that all the points you earn with your points-earning product(s) can be pooled to one points account, making it easy to keep track of your points in one place and get you closer to your redemption goals.

Note: Points are transferred on a 1:1 basis, meaning the number of points you transfer will not change from one points-earning product to another. In addition, there is no fee to transfer points.

No. You can transfer Avion points between accounts as you need, with no limits. Also, if you realize that you have transferred too many points toa points account, or into the wrong points account, you can always transfer them back, with no fees.

When you transfer Avion points from your U.S. Dollar Visa Gold points account to another Avion points account (non-U.S. dollar), the points will be transferred at a rate of 1:1.

No. Avion points transfers are final and can’t be reversed or cancelled. However, if you choose the wrong points account for your transfer or need the points back into the account you transferred from, you can just set up another transfer. Don’t worry, you will not pay any fees or experience any loss in the transfer.

If your business banking profile is not linked to your personal banking profile, you can transfer points from or to your business rewards account by calling us at 1-800-769-2512.

Invest and pay loans

To redeem your Avion points to Invest & Pay Loans:

  • Select the Invest in Registered Savings tile on the Redeem tab
  • Shop the catalogues to find the item(s) you want.
  • Select the item(s) of your choice and add it to your Secure Cart.
  • Complete your order by redeeming your Avion points

Shipping

Once your order is shipped, you’ll receive a shipping confirmation email that contains the tracking number.

For merchandise (not including Best Buy and Apple), physical Gift Cards and Invest and Pay Loan orders, you can also check the shipping status on your Avion Rewards Activity Page:

  • Sign in to Avion Rewards
  • Click on Activity in the top menu
  • On the Points tab, go to Available Transactions
  • Click on the Reference Number of your order
  • This will open a window that displays the order details including the most up to date shipping status, and the tracking link, if it's available.

Avion Rewards – Membership

General

If you’re not an RBC client, you can become a Select member. Download the Avion Rewards app or select “Join now” on the Avion Rewards website. Sign up with your email address and you’re in!

If you're an RBC client, you can become a Premium or Elite member depending on what account or card you have. Simply sign in to Avion Rewards using your Online Banking login to activate your membership.

Each membership level receives slightly different benefits and ways to earn or spend their points. You can see the full list of benefits for each membership level here.

You can progress to the next membership level depending on which type of card or bank account you have. Click here to see the full details on which product gets you to which level.

If you have an RBC Commercial Avion Visa, you can earn and redeem Avion points through your RBC account, but you won’t be able to actually log in to Avion Rewards or access offers.

You will qualify for whatever is the highest level. For example, if you have a card that gives you Elite membership (the highest membership level), and another card that gives you Premium membership, you will be an Avion Elite member.

Avion Select

Avion Select – general

Avion Select is Avion Rewards’ newest membership level. It’s for people who don’t have RBC accounts, and it’s free for everyone to join (just like all our levels). As an Avion Select member, you can earn and spend points, as well as get cash back at thousands of retailers both online and in-store.

Anyone who isn’t already an RBC client can become an Avion Select member. You simply have to be the age of majority in your province, and hold a valid bank account.

No. At this time, only Avion Premium and Avion Elite members can use their points to pay bills.

Yes! Avion Select members can use their points to shop Apple, Best Buy and other top brands.

Avion Select – cash back and points

It’s easy! Simply open Avion Rewards on your mobile app or desktop and shop available offers. Make sure you read the offer details as you may need to load an offer or link a card before earning.

You can also enable the Avion Rewards ShopPlus browser extension, and cash back deals will pop up as you shop online.

Avion Select members can redeem points for travel, gift cards, merchandise and charity donations – with more reward options coming soon. Keep shopping and look for offers to earn more points, faster, so you’re ready.

Avion Select card linking

You can link your card in 3 easy steps:

  • Log in to Avion Rewards
  • Visit “Manage cards” under the “Profile & Settings” menu
  • Select “Link a card” and follow the steps on the screen

Because once you do, you can shop and earn cash back at over 2,000 brands! Avion Rewards will automatically match your purchases with active offers.

Unfortunately, there are some financial institutions that don’t provide a consistent card connection, which could affect the ability to earn cash back and points. These financial institutions are not supported by Avion Rewards.

Yes, you can remove individual cards or bank accounts from your Avion Rewards profile at any time by selecting the delete icon in the “Manage Cards” section. Once you’ve removed a card or bank account, you’ll no longer be eligible to earn points or cash back on transactions made using these cards.

Here’s how to remove a linked card:

  • Go to the “More” menu
  • Click “Manage cards”
  • Choose the bank for the card that you want to remove
  • Beside the card, click the trash icon and confirm you want to remove the card

If you delete your card from your Avion Rewards account before you have earned cash back on eligible transactions that you made, we can't guarantee that you will earn cash back on them. It is best to wait until you've earned your cash back before you delete any of your cards.

Once your purchase is posted in your banking profile, it can take up to 5 business days for your cash back to show up in your Avion Rewards account.

You can also earn cash back for transactions made in the last 60 days, as long as you re-link your card.

It may take up to 5 business days from the date an eligible purchase is displayed on your online banking profile for cash back to appear on your Avion Rewards account.

Please check that your bank accounts are connected. If they are not, that may be the reason why your cash back isn’t appearing.

If you notice that you're missing cash back and your card is still connected, first check the offer to make sure your purchase qualifies.

If the purchase qualifies, you may need to refresh your bank account due to Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA). See the question What is MFA and why is it causing me to have to re-link my debit and credit cards?

To earn points or cash back on eligible purchases, Avion Rewards needs to be able to see that you’ve completed a transaction associated with an active offer. Rest assured; this is done with bank-level security practices to protect your privacy.

We use third-party account aggregation technology to match active offers with the purchases you make using the debit and/or credit card(s) you connect to your Avion Rewards profile. Our service provider uses masked login credentials to protect your privacy while providing us with transaction information from your connected accounts.

We'll collect information to establish your identity including your name, email address, and postal code. After you've connected your bank accounts to Avion Rewards, we'll collect specific information from the bank associated with your linked debit or credit card account, including account type, account number, currency, balance and transaction information. We'll also collect technical information about how you interact with the app including pages visited, IP address and device identifier information.

We'll use your transaction and other information to provide you with personalized offers, recommendations and marketing from us, other RBC companies, and certain partner brands (Promotional Content). Avion Rewards takes your privacy and security very seriously. As such, we and our service providers do everything possible to protect your information.

In the unlikely event your information at Avion Rewards is compromised and your online banking account is accessed without your consent, you’ll need to speak with your bank to see if any financial losses will be covered.

It is important that you read and understand the terms of service with your financial provider. Avion Rewards members who connect an RBC account are backed by RBC’s Digital Banking Security Guarantee in the event their RBC account is accessed without consent.

Avion Select card re-linking

Sometimes, your bank card(s) may become unlinked from your Avion Rewards profile due to an interrupted connection. This may be caused by factors such as multi-factor authentication (MFA), system outages or technical disruptions.

Don’t worry, it’s easy to fix! If you receive this notification, simply log in and relink your bank card(s) using one of these three options:

  • Click the notification on the home screen
  • Visit the Manage Cards section of the More menu on the app
  • Visit the Profile & Settings menu on the desktop app

That way you can keep earning cash back on eligible purchases.

When linking your card to Avion Rewards, your bank will ask you to enter your credentials. If you’ve changed anything recently, including your password or login information, your bank may request you to re-authenticate in order to keep your card linked to Avion Rewards.

We follow bank-level security practices set by RBC when we connect your card to Avion Rewards. If there are any interruptions in this secure connection, you’ll be required to re-link your bank account. Re-linking your bank account reconnects it to Avion Rewards. That way, we can match eligible offers with your transactions.

So, why would there be any interruptions? Occasionally, there may be technical or connection issues between us and your bank. Your bank will disconnect your card from Avion Rewards and get you to re-link yourself once again. Think of it as if you’re being logged out from your online banking page when you lose an internet connection.

Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) is a security feature designed to ensure your banking information is always protected.

Most banks use MFA. It’s a common security practice used in many secure, digital environments. Some banks give you the choice to turn on this security feature or they turn it on for you automatically.

As an additional authentication process alongside your login credentials, you may need to answer a security question, provide a unique SMS code that your bank may send you, or other enhanced measures when you are requesting access to your bank account.

When you try to connect your card to Avion Rewards, your bank gets notified that Avion Rewards wants to view your banking information. This information appears as a set of encrypted letters and numbers — we never know your personal information. MFA simply lets your bank know that you have authorized this access.

Yes! Once you successfully relink, we’ll honour all points or cash back earned on eligible purchases made up to 60 days prior.

As long as the last successful link was fewer than 60 days ago, you’ll earn cash back. Even if your card unlinks, you earn cash back just as long as you re-link within 60 days.
